Biography

Richard Goodchild was a renowned British archaeologist known for his work on classical archaeology and epigraphy of the Roman Provinces, with a particular focus on Libya and its main regions, Cyrenaica and Tripolitania. He worked alongside John Bryan Ward-Perkins (BSR Director, 1945-1974) and Joyce Reynolds for the publication of the Inscriptions of Roman Tripolitania. In 1960, he took over the directorship of the newly established British Institute of History and Archaeology in East Africa.
