John Bryan Ward-Perkins Directorship (1945-1974), 1928 - 1974, bulk: 1945 - 1974
Scope and Contents
Documents from this sub-fonds record the British School at Rome activities during John Bryan Ward-Perkins's Directorship between 1945 and 1974, which lasted nearly 30 years, from the post-war period to the early 1970s. The filing system, meticulously devised for internal purposes, entailed the arrangement by academic year, starting in September and ending in June. Inbound and outbound correspondence is filed together, and incoming letters are deposited in the order they were received. This sub-fonds complements the documents and files produced by the 1851 Commissioners in the London Office, in which the original letters sent from Rome were preserved within a different arrangement system. These files are currently included in the BSR Administrative Archive, allowing for a cross-reference between the two archival systems.
