Biography/Historical Note
One of the most renowned classical scholar and expert in the field of epigraphy, she was Director of Studies in Classics at Newnham College, Cambridge, 1951-1979; Lecturer in Classics, 1957-1983 and Reader in the Epigraphy of the Roman World, University of Cambridge, 1983-1984.

Graduated at Somerville College, Oxford, 1944. Fellow of the British Academy, 1982.
