Oates, David, 1927-2004 (British archaeologist)

Biography/Historical Note

Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, 1949, he specialised in archaeology of the Ancient Near East. He was Director of the British Institute for the Study of Iraq between 1965 and 1969 and became Fellow of the British Academy in 1974.

Scope and Contents This file is about the archaeological expeditions in Libya, particularly in the regions of Tripolitania and Cyrenaica.
