Card catalogue, 6
Scope and Contents
The catalogue of lantern slides was published jointly by the Library Roman and Hellenic Societies, and was continually updated to reflect new material and donations. A further aid to the collection was the card catalog, which was originally available on the library premises in London. Described as an “illustrated catalog” in the Roman Society reports, the index cards provided a distinctly visual guide to the lantern slide collection. Organized thematically according to geography, style and genre, historical period, and material, the catalogue was designed to facilitate access to the collection, and to provide an additional inventory from which members of either society could borrow or purchase lantern slides. There are photographs of cities, ancient buildings, sculpture, ruins, antiquities, landscapes, archaeological sites, arches, walls, maps and plans, as well as early modern drawings and prints.
