Biographical / Historical
Richard Schofield (b. 1948), graduated in Greek and Latin, literature, history and classical philosophy at the University of Oxford (1968-72), then studied art history at the Courtauld Institute, University of London (1974-9), MA Thesis: Raphael and Pintoricchio at the Piccolomini Library in Siena (1974); PHD; Bramante Studies: the Milanese Period (1979). He became Lecturer (1980), Reader (1990) and full professor of Art history (1995) at the University of Nottingham, where he was director of the department from 1982 to 1996, and Director of the Art Gallery (1983-88). In Nottingham he taught Greco-Roman sculpture and architecture, Italian Renaissance architecture, English architecture of the XVI-XIX centuries. In 1997 he became a full professor of History of architecture at the IUAV University of Venice. Nationality: British
