Biography/Historical Note
He was born in Guilford, England, in 1931. From 1969 to 1965 he was Architect and Planning Consultant with the Oxford Preservation Trust. In 1969 he moved to South Africa, where he was Senior Planning Officer in Durban. In 1972 he moved to Australia, where he was First Assistant Commissioner (Architecture) of the national Capital Development Commission in Camberra and, since 1975, Professor of Architecture at the Univesity of New South Wales; at the same University he held the position of Head of the Graduate School of Built Environment from 1981. He retired in 1993. to 1989.

Studied architecture at the Kingston-on-Thames College of Art, graduating in 1952. In 1961 he won a Ford International Fellowship and Fulbright Fellowship to the MIT.
