Russell Meiggs Papers

 Fonds

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of the personal papers and photographs of historian and archaeologist Russell Meiggs. The papers include letters, other types of correspondence, and autograph copies of lectures on Pompeii and other archaeological subjects. There are also manuscript copies of publications by Meiggs, including his manuscript (typescript draft) on Roman Ostia, published in 1960, with annotations.

The majority of photographs and film negatives are of the port city of Ostia, probably taken during excavations in the 1920s and 1930s, but also include personal photographs such as family portraits, city and landscape views of Italian towns, as well as images from his time as a Pelham student at the BSR in 1925. Some correspondence with John Bradfrod relating to Ostia is also present.

The collection is currently being processed.
