Slides and holiday negatives, 1960 - 1989

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

As far as possible the slides have been kept in their original order as in the boxes they came from, this accounts for what seem to be ‘empty spaces’ in their sheets and in no way indicates missing slides (except for item 11). Of particular note are the maps at item 20, which are illuminating for tracking the history of the excavations of these sites. Several of the glass plates are cracked or otherwise damaged, please handle with care.

2. Apulia, May 1963.

13. Apulia, undated; Masseria Biasetta I.
14. Apulia, undated, but possibly 1960: Several unidentified people, presumably, family friends or fellow archaeologists of GDBJ’s. At least two slides of GDBJ himself (one dated 25th December 1960). Probable photographer for the rest is GDBJ.
15. Italy, undated: Spoleto, Ponte Agosto, Ascoli Piceno.
16. Italy, undated: Alba Fucens & Area II.
17. Italy, undated: Mountains (some identified as Terminillo).

19. Unknown locations (possibly Greece): personal images, possibly some used in a lecture.
20. Apulia, undated: Maps, site-illustrations, frescoes, and book plates of the local area. Some topographical, others illustrative, still more geographical. These plates relate to the following slides at items 21, 23, and 24, but not in any identifiable order. Possibly these were selected for different lectures or presentations showcasing the progression of GDBJ’ Apulia project.
21. Apulia, (possibly 1988-1994, but probably 1989, some certainly earlier judging by the type of slide and discolouration): Aerials of the local area.
22. Apulia, (possibly 1988-1994, but probably 1989, some certainly earlier judging by the type of slide and discolouration): Landscapes of the local area.
23. Apulia, (mostly from 1964): Excavation material, the medieval castle at Lucerna.
24. Unclear locations, tin labelled 1960: a mix of aerials, landscapes, people, and sightseeing. Some uncut still in tin.
25. Unclear locations (one possibly the Rome Open tennis tournament), tin labelled 1965: a mix of landscapes, people, artifacts, and sightseeing. Many uncut still in tin.
26. Apulia, 1965. Originally found in a black chequebook size negative album labelled ‘Apulia Neo[lithic] plates, Slide Material.’ These negatives relate to various slides, including aerial photography from Bradford, but almost entirely these are the negatives from item 20 in this box.
