Ponte di Nona, 1975 - 1976, 1976 - 1988
Scope and Contents
This excavation was conducted on behalf of the BSR, and under the aegis of BSR Director, David Whitehouse, in collaboration with the Soprintendenza delle Antichità di Roma (now Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma). It was carried out by a team of archaeologists and researchers from the University of Lancaster between 1975 and 1976 on a site located along the Via Prenestina and known as 'Ponte di Nona site', near the ancient town of Gabii. Permissions for excavating the sites were released under authorisations issued by public authorities (Concessione ministeriale n. 4622, 1975 and Concessione ministeriale n. 3242, 1976). Timothy Potter was in charge of curating the excavation reports that were then published in 1989 (see Bibliography). Contributions to the publication were made by Paul Gibbons, Rick Turner, Calvin Wells and John Witherington. Findings and pottery excavated from Ponte di Nona were handed over to the Soprintendenza delle Antichità on 1st December 1976.
