Frick maps Series, 1943 - 1945
Scope and Contents
The so-called 'Frick Maps' are photostat cultural town plans prepared and issued by The Frick Reference Library to assist military personnel with identifying principal historical monuments of Italian towns and their locations during World War II. The Committee of the American Council of Learned Societies on Protection of Cultural Treasures in War Areas spent two years (1943-1945) in the Frick Library alongside librarians and photographers to detail and locate the principal cultural sites and art treasures of Europe. These maps were assembled, in part, by using the Harvard Lists. Those relating to the Italian towns were 144 in total. Below, the list of towns and areas from this Series:
