Biography/Historical Note
Born in Sussex, Burke studied at the Brighton College of Art. Winning the Rome Scholarship in Engraving at the British School, 1957-59, Burke much enjoyed his period in Italy before moving back to the UK where he taught at the Bright College of Art. In fact, Burke was affiliated with this institution for much of his life. Moving away from his earlier engraving works, Burke is known especially for his use of vivid colour and abstract scenes with human figures.
