Biography/Historical Note

Painter and etcher, born in Walthamstow, London. Studied at the Eastbourne and Brighton Schools of Art before moving onto the Royal College of Art in the 1930s. Rome Scholar in Etching, 1938-39, before the outbreak of the Second World War. Eventually, Archer worked at the Kingston College of Art, alongside fellow Rome Scholar, Wilfred Fairclough. Archer Royal Society of Painter-Etchers in 1940. After the War, Archer returned to Italy, travelling around with the support of the British School.
