Biography/Historical Note

British painter and printmaker, born in Sussex. Studied at the Hastings School of Art before moving onto the Royal College of Art. After spending a couple of years in Italy, being awarded a Rome Scholarship in Engraving, on return to England, Osborne taught at the Polytechnic School of Art in London and married Charlotte Ellen Gibson (a fellow Rome Scholar). Osborne was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers in 1946, later becoming a fellow in 1957. He helped found the Society of Wildlife Artists in 1964. Known especially for his prints depicting scenes pertaining to ornithology.
