Biography/Historical Note

Printmaker and painter, Frederick George Austin was born in Leicester and was the brother of Robert Austin (Rome Scholarship in Engraving, 1922). Austin studied at the Leicester School of Art before moving onto the Royal College of Art. He won the Rome Scholarhsip in Engraving at the British School in 1927. Known especially for his presentaiton of rural and religious scenes, with an influence of medieval imagery. After leaving Rome, Austin taught widely in England before spending time in Canada.
