Abstract

The collection comprises nearly 7,000 objects, 2 albums and thousands of born-digital files and represents an outstanding resource for the study of the Fine Arts practice of British and Commonwealth artists and architects since the establishment of the Rome Prizes for Decorative Painting, Engraving, Sculpture and Architecture in 1913.

Scope and Contents

The Roman Society used glass negatives to produce both lantern slides and photographic prints, and were made available to members for loan or purchase. The Roman Society's register of negatives, in addition to the printed catalog published annually in the Journal of Roman Studies, listed which images were available. Members also donated their glass negatives for use by the Society and partner institutions.
