Card catalogue, 1955 - 2014

 Series

Scope and Contents

This Series consists of 13 albums, including 1,119 cards, often written on both sides, relating to Umbrian-Sabellic votive bronzes from periods 2 to 5, identified by Giovanni Colonna and held in museums and collections worldwide. Most of the cards are linked, through references, to the photographs and drawings preserved in Series GC/2 (Photographic Albums). Some are not associated with any images. In almost all cases, each card bears at the top the place of preservation and/or provenance of the piece (or, more rarely, pieces) described, along with one or more numbers corresponding to a classification established by the scholar. That is followed by a brief description, sometimes including the institution's inventory number, the number of the associated photograph, and relevant bibliographic references. Not infrequently, the cards also feature sketches and drawings of the statuettes by Giovanni Colonna. The reverse side often contains further notes, annotations, and comparisons. The scholar continued to work on bibliographic references and related materials until 2014, maintaining an up-to-date research record, as evidenced by several notes in different colours and styles on the cards. This Series is arranges as follows:
