Biography
After his studies at the Liverpool School of Architecture, he was the first student to gain the Rome scholarship in Architecture (1914-15; 1919-20). His scolarship was suspended during WWI, when he served in the Royal Engineers as a Captain. He returned to Rome in 1919 to resume his work. He was the first secretary of the Royal Fine Arts Commission, established in 1924. His design work included the British School at Rome's "Common Room" and several Commonwealth War Graves Commission First World War cemeteries and memorials.
